On 23rd April every year, people across Catalonia exchange roses and books to show affection for partners, friends, and family, in remembrance of Saint George slaying a dragon to save a princess, while also celebrating World Book Day (this was integrated later). The death anniversary Miguel Cervantes, the eminent Spanish author of Don Quixote, as well as birth anniversary of William Shakespeare fall on the same day, making Sant Jordi a massive open-air way of celebrating love an literature the Catalan way.
